About Us

We are an anti-zionist, queer-led community for Jewish and Jewish adjacent people based in Northwest Philadelphia, where kids inspire and everyone belongs. We were founded in 2015 and in 2025 began expanding to include Shabbat services, family programming, educational offerings, and more.

As we continue to build out our offerings, we want to provide not merely political education and spiritual education, but also opportunities to get involved in movement work throughout Philadelphia.  In providing people a spiritual home rooted in justice work, we hope you will feel a renewed sense of energy to take courageous action!

We are currently offering thee following in 6786, stay tuned for more:

  • An Intro to Judaism Course
  • Elul learning for families
  • High Holiday services for adults and youth.

History

The Tikkun Olam Chavurah has been deeply involved with the issues of liberation, specifically for justice in Palestine/Israel with Jewish Voice for Peace, and immigrant justice locally with the New Sanctuary Movement, for many years. As the only antizionist congregation in Philadelphia, we pride ourselves on being a space of learning and community. Our vision for 5786 is to have programs throughout the year, starting with Elul, leading to the new year, and continuing through every major holiday (and some minor ones!) to explore the ways to focus on the political justice underpinnings of each holiday and of the entire Jewish calendar once Israel is removed as the centerpiece. All of our programs utilize Jewish ritual, text, and spiritual practices to nourish broader movement work.

We are based in Northwest Philadelphia, the ancestral territory of the Lenni-Lenape People. We pay respect to Indigenous people throughout the Lenape diaspora- past, present, and future- and honor those that have been historically, systematically disenfranchised and forced off their land. We also acknowledge that the state of Pennsylvania and the United States as a nation, was founded upon the systematic exclusions, erasures, and genocide of Indigenous peoples.
